Gens + Kaillera can't handle saving your game?

Hey guys... I figure you could call this a bug or some such though I could be wrong, so Im putting this up under Bugs and Questions. Anyway... My friend and I have been doing this thing where I've been showing him all old RPGs. Playing through while he watches, basically. Now I wanted to show him the Phantasy Star games, starting with 3, but not only does Kaillera not support save states, but when I try to save the game, it totally messes up! I even tried going into PS4 and saving, and although it says it saved, it didn't at all. I'd assume Kaillera can't handle updating the .gsv file or some such... is there any kind of fix to this, or a way to get it to work? Or even a different genesis emulator that can handle netplay with saved games? I'd really appreciate an answer on this... thanks much.
